It has only been in the last few years that I have seen gray fox along the North Shore. It seems that they are pushing their range further north each year.

I came across this gray fox just south of our home along Hwy61.

But it isn’t long and they are running after their mom.

They look so awkward when they first start to stand up.

This is the time of year that you can easily come across a newborn fawn while hiking the trails. That is what happened this last week. I was very fortunate to be able to see three newborn fawns. One was in Two Harbors and the other two were behind out house outside of Grand Marais.
