Just before we went to Atlanta my second cousin and his girlfriend stopped in for a visit. Neither one had been to the North Shore before. It was a pleasure to introduce them to the area. I really enjoyed accompanying them to some of my favorite locations.

Split Rock Lighthouse has to be the most photographed lighthouse in the nation.

The next stop was Tettegouche State Park.

We hiked to the top of Palisade Head where there are awesome views of Lake Superior and of Shovel Point in the distance. The waves were just big enough to produce the intense blue color Lake Superior is known for.

We spent some time on the beach captivated by the waves washing over the smooth stones.

There is one location on the west end of the beach that catches the waves sending the spray skyward.

The next morning fog enveloped the area which gave a whole new view to the rocky shoreline along Tettegouche State Park.

West Bearskin Lake from Caribou Rock Gunflint Trail

We drove up the Gunflint Trail to catch a glimpse of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It was just a short hike to Caribou Rock which overlooks West Bearskin Lake, a typical wilderness view.
