Monday we had a series of storms along the North Shore of Lake Superior. I happened to be in town when one of the larger storm cells passed over the harbor. I sat in the car and waited out the rain. As soon as the rain stopped a double rainbow was centered right above the Grand Marais Lighthouse.

Of the three dozen or so shots that I took I was fortunate enough to get one photo that captured the lightning bolt hitting the lake.

As the cloud got further out into the lake the sun lit up the front showing just how impressive of a storm this one was.

The thunder head must have reached 30,000 feet.

The pressure change produced winds that must have stirred up the waters of Lake Superior off shore as the surface of the lake went from dead calm to five foot waves in about fifteen minutes.

With the drop in temperature and the onshore wind ground fog covered the shoreline. The dense white fog slowly engulfed the shoreline creeping in like a ghost.

Everyone standing there watching it was amazed at how fast the scene changed before their eyes.

Soon the fog started to rise over the trees making the entire scene look like something straight out of a fairy tale.

On my way home I stopped in the field below our house and watched the clouds turn orange from the setting sun. Every so often a lightning bolt would come straight down hitting Lake Superior.
