There are two color seasons on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The first is when the maples that cover the Sawtooth Mountains become a vibrant red and orange. The second is when the aspen and birch along the shoreline of Lake Superior turn yellow and gold. This week the maples peaked. Karla and I along with some friends got a chance to take in the sights and smells of this beautiful time of year.Eagle Soaring Over Mount Sophie
I also got a chance to hike into Mount Sophie. Travis Novitsky took me into one of his favorite spots to photograph fall colors. We climbed the fire tower on the top of Mount Sophie which gave us a panoramic view of the lakes and maple ridges below. While photographing the ridges Travis all of a sudden says “Eagle”. A beautiful bald eagle soared over the lake just below us. He circled in front of us as he rode an upward draft into the sky above. Both of us got some photos of the eagle. It was a great experience.
