This winter the Lower Gooseberry Falls is just beautiful. The low temperatures and lack of snow have caused the river to freeze almost to the bottom which forced some of the water to the top and off to the side. As a result thousands of pounds of ice have formed across the face of the falls.Gooseberry Falls By Moonlight
I spent part of Thursday night below the falls photographing the ice in the moonlight. The clear skies allowed the stars to easily show in the photos. The moon cast enough light to make the falls take on a daytime look. Along with the incredible sight, the sounds were very memorable. You could hear the movement of the water under the ice, behind the falls and down stream where the rapids are still open. All I could say as I left was “Wow”.
