I love traveling the North Shore at this time of year when the new leaves come out giving the forest several shades of green. I took this photo from the Highway 61 bridge as it goes over the Beaver River in Beaver Bay. There was only one person walking the beach searching for agates.Robin Nest
Robins built a nest next to the parking lot at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and I photographed them from the car. I set the tripod up next to the tree and used a remote to trip the shutter. Something happened and I had to make an ethical choice.
The adults were feeding the young. All of a sudden they started to attack something. It was a red squirrel coming towards the nest. Squirrels will eat bird eggs and young birds. The squirrel was dive bombed and still it kept coming. He climbed the tree, scrambled along the branch and looked like he was ready to grab one of the baby robins. I had only a second to decide if I should take the photo of the red squirrel killing a baby robin or open the car door and scare him off. What would you have done? Let me know and I tell you what I did next week.
