Our cousins from Norway, Hermund Pedersen, and his son, Henning, along with Marybeth and David Schuller from the Twin Cities, spent the weekend with us. We stopped at many wonderful sites along the way to Grand Portage for Rendezvous Days

We learned about the fur trade era at the Grand Portage National Monument, where re-enactors from across the country and Canada gathered to share information and have fun.

Pow-Wow 001

We enjoyed the colorful Pow-Wow sponsored by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. It was fun to watch the cultural gathering where entire families celebrate in dance and song.

Foggy Morning at Split Rock Light 001

We ended our experience by visiting Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. It had just stopped raining and the slight onshore winds were pushing low hanging fog up the cliff.

The view of the lighthouse was constantly changing. One second it would disappear and the next it appears as though rising out of the fog creating awesome photo opportunities.
