Most of the bright red, gold and orange leaves that made this year’s fall colors so breathtaking are now on the ground. The colors lasted much longer than any fall I can remember.

Lower Gooseberry Falls

Some years the colors are at their peak for only a few days. This fall we had terrific colors for almost four weeks. Every chance I got, I headed for the woods to hike along the North Shore rivers or climb up to an overlook to be inspired by the exceptional beauty of the North Shore in its fall wardrobe.

I wasn’t alone in my quest to see the fall colors. One Saturday, we broke the attendance record at Gooseberry Falls State Park with almost 7,400 visitors enjoying the waterfalls surrounded by magnificent splendor.
