Grand Marais Ice Shards 001

Thousands of ice shards continued piling up along the north shore this week. Recent cold temperatures have produced ice from Duluth to Grand Marais. Onshore winds have piled much of that ice in front of many of the rocky points. Grand Marais is exceptionally beautiful right now.

I photographed the ice shards as they piled up on Saturday morning. The sounds were absolutely awesome as a light onshore wind produced enough force to pile the ice along the break wall.
