We had several waves of storms go through the North Shore area on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The storms not only gave us much needed rain, but they produced some pretty impressive rainbows. I noticed the first one while having supper and drove down to the mouth of the Gooseberry River to take some photos off the point.Gitchi Gammi Bike Trail
After taking a few pictures I drove to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park thinking the angle of the sun could put a rainbow over the lighthouse. I hiked down the shore waiting for the clouds to break. Nothing appeared for about 30 minutes so I grew impatient and headed back for home. That was a mistake. By the time I reached the Split Rock River the sun was coming out. Before I could get back to the lighthouse there in front of me was a beautiful full double rainbow. I stopped at an overlook above the Gitchi Gami bike trail to take in this memorable view.Little Two Harbors Rainbow
After taking several photos I thought that maybe I had enough time to get down to the shore and take that once in a lifetime photo with the rainbow over the lighthouse. I got to the beach and sure enough one end of the rainbow was right over the lighthouse. I set my camera up but just as I was ready to take the photo another cloud came over the sun and the rainbow was gone like someone had turned off the switch.
