This week I spent some time photographing small things around the yard. It is surprising how much beauty you can find in the little things that you see everyday. We have six chipmunks that collect the bird seed that the birds drop from the feeders. They are always busy collecting and storing up food. It is hard to get them to stop long enough to pose for a picture but one did stand still for a little while after filling his pouches with food.
The wood frog was in the middle of the lawn so I moved him to the edge of the woods so he didn’t get stepped on. I was able to get some close ups of him before he disappeared. Like a raccoon, the wood frog looks like it has a mask.
Gray Tree Frog
The gray tree frog I found in an old wood box. It must have been damp in there and a good place to catch insects. I also put him in the woods. Gray tree frogs can change color. When I picked him up he turned completely gray in my hand. I think he was worried about what I might to do to him. After putting him on a moss covered log in the woods he relaxed and turned a green color blending in with his surroundings. Next time you’re out in the yard get close to the ground and look around. It is surprising what you will find.
