We are sending out “Photo of the Week” a little early because I will be heading out to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota to do service projects and work with the youth in the local community. Fourteen kids are going from our church meeting up with youth from other towns. We will have over 60 youth in total so it will be a very fun and life changing week. Evening trips will bring us to Wounded Knee and parts of the Badlands. I am sure I will have photos to share when we return.
This week was the first time all summer that I made it back to my favorite eagles nest. It is located in the top of a large white pine up the Caribou Trail. The young are not so young anymore. As I was watching one chick started flapping its wings and a big gust of wind blew him right off the nest. He flapped furiously to get back to the nest grabbing onto a limb. I don’t know if it was his first flight or not but it looks like it won’t be long before they will be leaving the nest. I was fortunate enough to watch the adults bring in two fish. The one photo attached shows the larger of the two fish. It is hard to believe that the adult can carry a fish this large.
