The Pink & White Showy Lady’s-Slippers, which are the Minnesota state flower, were in bloom for one day this week. They bloom later than the Lady’s-Slippers around the rest of Minnesota because of the cooler temperatures along the shore. We usually can view them for about a week in July but our resident whitetail deer love to eat the flowers as much as people like to see them.
Earlier this week the flowers bloomed during the day. I took these pictures late that evening. The next morning the deer had not only eaten the flowers but half of the plants. Many people called and asked if the lady’s-slippers were blooming as they wanted to see them. They were very disappointed to hear that the deer had gotten their before they had a chance to see them.
