Moonrise Over Split Rock 001
In January the full moon rises directly behind Split Rock Lighthouse which is located in Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. On Wednesday evening several local photographers gathered along one of the state park’s trails and set up their cameras in anticipation of this annual event. Cloud cover does not allow the moon to shine through every year. We thought this year was going to be one of those times. Two large cloud banks were converging over the big lake and it didn’t look very promising.
We waited for a small area of clouds to break up. I don’t think any of us expected it to happen. All of a sudden the full moon shown through the clouds and lit up the sky just as if the director of this annual event shouted “Action”.
