A giant sunspot exploded earlier in the week sending a CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) towards earth. They predicted that the aurora would be some of the best in years but it would be competing with a bright moonlit night.
The aurora was nice but did not have the columns of colors that I expected to see.
Green bands of light in several different shapes moved along the horizon.
I took these photos at the Cutface Creek overlook south of Grand Marais.
I drove into Grand Marais to get the reflection of the harbor with the aurora in the background but by then they were quite dim.
