Silver Cliff Tunnel
Summer has arrived and with it lots of blue sky to enjoy outdoor adventures. While driving by the Silver Cliff Tunnel, I stopped to photograph this scene of puffy white clouds and blue sky.
The Gitchi Gami State Trail follows old Hwy 61 around Silver Cliff. Until its completion, visitors missed the view because you couldn’t stop your vehicle beside the cliff.
Gooseberry Falls State Park
The lava flows along the shore in Gooseberry Falls State Park is another great spot to explore with kids. These little ponds are full of tadpoles. The bike trail goes right up to the shoreline.
Split Rock Lighthouse State Park
The bike trail also passes through Split Rock Lighthouse State Park with many picturesque views from the cart-in campground.
Gitchi Gami State Trail
The Gitchi Gami State Trail continues to Beaver Bay.
Tettegouche State Park
To take advantage of blue skies, another great stopover with a view is Palisade Head in Tettegouche State Park.
We spent some time with our grandkids at Black Beach outside of Silver Bay. This area is now a city park. The dark color of the rocks radiates a lot of heat. Our granddaughter was brave enough to put her feet into the chilly Lake Superior water.
Getting kids outdoors can be a lot of fun and educational. Our granddaughter is admiring this beaver cutting and the large wood chips beaver can make.
Just exploring ferns brought a smile to our granddaughter’s face.
Back Country Road
This month, lupines are blooming along many of the roadsides throughout the North Shore. They are commonly purple, blue, pink or white.
The magenta lupines are harder to find. These are located outside of Grand Marais along County Road 7.
