Caribou Rock Gunflint Trail
We took a trip up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais on Saturday. About three miles up the trail the world is transformed into a winter wonderland. The snow is over two feet deep in most places with lots of snow hanging on the trees. We saw many moose tracks but didn’t have the privilege of seeing any actual animals.
We hiked up to Caribou Rock off the Hungry Jack Lake Road. The trail continues into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness but it only takes about 15 minutes to hike to the top of Caribou Rock. What a view! Looking out through the snow covered pines you could see for about four miles down West Bearskin Lake.
