With the arrival of spring, several species of ducks are frequenting the small ponds along the North Shore. One of the more common species, yet very beautiful, is the mallard. Here you can see the bluish green head of the male.
Wood Duck 001
My favorite is the wood duck. It has the most beautiful wardrobe of any of the ducks that frequents the North Shore. Wood ducks are very wary so it is very seldom you can get close enough for good photos. To get this one I set up my blind the night before and returned early the next morning. The mallards and wood duck were resting on a cedar log at the edge of the pond. I was able to get a few photos before each of them left to feed.
